What Your Stylist Needs to Know

Have you ever had an unpleasant experience with the outcome of getting your hair done? It could come down to something as simple as what you divulged or didn’t divulge in your initial consultation with your stylist. Now we’re not saying that every bad experience or outcome comes down to this, but let’s run through the need to know information to hopefully help prevent it in future. For haircuts and styling, it’s simple, what do you do day to day? Your stylist needs to know how you normally wear your hair, whether you style with a blowdryer, flat iron, curling iron, or if you prefer to wash and go. This will help aid them in cutting your hair in a way that fits you and your everyday. Pro-tip: Uncross those legs while getting your haircut! We know, it’s much more comfortable that way, but it tends to cause us to lean one way or another and could cause an uneven line. Help your stylist help you!

When it comes to color, your stylist needs you to be over communicative. The outcome of your color services mainly depends on your previous hair history. If you do not disclose to your stylist all of your previous hair history, you may experience issues in terms of how your hair grabs and holds onto color, or how well your hair lifts when it when using lightener. There are more extreme outcomes that can arise if you don’t disclose all of your hair history, like hair breakage or hair loss. You may think that the last time you did box color was 3 years ago, so why mention it? Well, hair grows an average of 6 inches a year, therefore the bottom remaining inches may be holding onto that box color, and will have a different end result than the rest of your hair. The best thing you can do is be very honest with your stylist, give the brand names of the color you used if possible, and overall, understand that there may be limitations with your color based on your hair history. We always offer complimentary consultations and strand tests so we can create a plan with you about a future service and figure out the realistic outcome. You can always book them online or give us a call and schedule one!

Let’s chat about extensions. The same rules apply as for your haircut! Your stylist needs to know your lifestyle and how you care for your hair at home. There are multiple methods of hair extensions and we offer most of them and we want to make sure we are picking the right one for you! Between the methods, there a few that are more suited for a wash and go lifestyle, a blow-dry or heat style lifestyle, and even ones more specific for those that prefer to wear their hair in a lower pony or a high pony. Your stylist will help pair you with the best method for you and recommend the proper ways to care for your extensions, especially with proper products. We recommend booking a consultation with a stylist prior to booking for any extension service as the time and cost varies based on length, color and method.
